Leap ® Chair Review

What you get

Chair Review by Chris

Sitting can be very uncomfortable and any ergonomist will tell you that you should get up every now and again to get the blood flowing. No disagreements about that. But changing your position while you sit also helps. The problem with many chairs is that they provide you with support in one or two positions, but not through the whole range of movement. Support is either extremely limited or very uncomfortable at certain positions.

This is not the case with the Leap®. The chair is designed to move as you move. The back, seat and arms adjusts to just Leap Chair Reviewthe right level of support as you move. But how can a chair know the level of support you require?

Research. And a lot of it. How does 732 participants, 27 scientist, 11 studies and four years of testing sound to you? And before a chair is sold to the public roughly 130 tests are performed on it, including ergonomics, environmental effect, flammability, workability, durability and many more.

But enough about the manufacturer, it is clear they do stringent tests. What about the chair?

Back Support

The back support is flexible. What this means is that the chair's back moves automatically as you move and takes on the shape of your back. The result is that your entire back receives constant support, no matter the level of recline.

Your lower back receives full support and you can adjust the firmness of the support to suite your specific needs. The chair's lumbar support is fully adjustable to fit the curve of your lower back. You can also adjust the height of the lumbar support - anything from 5.75" to 10.25" away from the seat.

Recline

Interesting to note is that the seat slides forward as you recline and that the front edge doesn't rise as many other chairs do. The result is that you do not feel any increased pressure at the back of your legs. The recline function has been designed so that you remain at the same distance from your computer screen or work area, no matter the degree of recline.

Seat

The seat is well padded and are fairly comfortable, although not the best around. The seat automatically adjusts and changes shape as you move around in it.

One function that I really like is the flexible seat edge. Some well known brands don't have this function and the result is pressure to the bottom of the leg when moving around a lot. You won't have this problem with the Leap®, as the edge bends down as the weight on the edge of the seat increases.

The seat depth is also fully adjustability from 15.75" to 18.75" to accommodate people of different sizes. As long as your upper leg's measurements are within these ranges you should not have a problem.

Arms

You can choose a chair with no arms, height adjustable arms or fully adjustable arms. Fully adjustable arms can move up and down, in and out and you can also change the angle of the arms to best support you when you sit. When you look at armrests think what your own arms can do. The closer the chairs armrests get to this, the better. The width of the armrests is adjustable from 12.5 to 20 inches. The armrest moves automatically as you move.

Weight Capacity

The maximum weight is 300 pounds.

Would I buy it?

Only if the manufacturer decide to bring the chair out with a more modern look. It is my personal preference and highly subjective, but I prefer a chair to be very comfortable and to look modern. If one of the two is lacking, I look for something else.

What others say

Based on all the reviews I have read I would say the average reviewer gives the chair 3.8 out of 5 stars. Not as high as some other chairs, but a lot of people still gave this chair 5 stars and even more 4 stars.

Pros

  • Most people like the fact that the chair is so adjustable.
  • Back support also receive a big thumbs up.
  • I read a few reviews where people stated that the armrests are the best they ever experienced.

Cons

  • Many people say it takes time to get use to the chair, even those who gives the chair five stars.
  • A few people complain that the seat is too hard, especially the bigger folks.
  • It can take some effort (and time) to find just the perfect setting for your specific body type.
